How Do We Get Paid?
It should be no surprise that for helping our clients enroll in the proper coverage, and providing service down the road, we do get paid. We believe in full transparency, so this article explains how we get paid.
Our Service Doesn’t Cost You A Penny
The first thing to understand is that while we do get paid for assisting our clients, it truly doesn’t cost you a penny. The insurance companies pay us directly, and importantly, the price you pay for your coverage is the same whether you work with us or enroll directly. That means there is NO discount for trying to do-it yourself. So save yourself the hassle!
Unbiased Recommendations
Second, you should understand it’s our duty to make unbiased recommendations based on whatever plan is going to work best for YOUR situation. This is a legal requirement for us and forms a part of each of our contracts. More importantly it’s just the ethical way to behave.
That means when we make a recommendation we cannot take into consideration how much we get paid. We have advised hundreds of clients NOT to purchase insurance with us, because it wouldn’t have been in their best interest for them to change their coverage.
How Much Do We Get Paid
The answer depends on the policy you buy, where you live, and whether it’s your first time getting on to Medicare or not.
Medicare Advantage Plans - We earn up to a fixed amount set by The Center for Medicare Services (CMS). Companies are forbidden from paying agents more than this. In 2025, for most states, that was $26.08 per member per month.
Non-commissionable Plans - While $26.08/mo is the most we can be paid, many companies pay less than this or nothing at all for certain plans. An increasing number of plans and companies are choosing to not pay agents.
Medicare Supplement Plans - We earn a fixed percentage of the beginning premium you pay. As your plan increases in cost generally our pay remains fixed. For the companies we represent, this percentage is generally 15-20% of the premium you pay. So, for example, if your monthly premium is $120, we might be paid $18-24 per month.
Part D Drug Plans - In 2025, the maximum amount CMS allows agents to be paid for Part D plans is $4.16/mo. However, across most of the country, and in our home state of Indiana, companies have stopped paying agents to assist with Part D Drug plan enrollments entirely. So typically we make $0 to assist with your Part D Drug plan.
Dental and Vision Plans - Typically we earn 10% of the premium you pay. So if your dental plan is $20 per month, we earn $2 per month in commissions.
